Being sprayed with a hose on a hot summer’s day, a piggyback ride from a friend, a slip-n-slide that doesn’t quit or just soaking up the sunshine with your besties…these are the simple joys of Sundays at Camp Highlander.

After a late wake up, chapel and an extra long rest hour, campers raced down to the field to enjoy the wild rapids waterslide, a giant slip-n-slide, riverball and more! This simple Sunday offered less structure and more joy for our campers as they felt free to just play and be kids. I love the way they get creative and start a hand stand challenge, act playful and start a water war or seek competition in a sponteous game of ultimate frisbee. There is a casual and relaxed feeling on Sundays that allow campers and staff to engage in meaningful conversation or the best kind of laughter that makes your stomach hurt.

Happiness, satisfaction and joy are all found in the simple days of camp, and we are so grateful for each and every one!

Favorite Details of the Day:

  • Chapel: We read “Oh the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss and talke about having believing in yourself to reach your potential and follow your dreams.
  • Meals: Breakfast was blueberry muffins and scrambled eggs. Lunch was grilled cheese, tomato soup and french fries. Dinner was fried chicken, mashed potatoes, steamed vegetables and biscuits.
  • EP: Campfire followed by cookies and milk!
  • Special Events: Senior Camp enjoyed a trip to Dolly’s for ice cream and social time with friends while the rest of camp enjoyed a fun water day on the field.
